Employment in Cyprus industrial sector up by 3.9% in 2019

Employment in the industrial sector increased by 3.9% annually in 2019, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, on Monday, show.

In particular, according to the results of the Survey on Industrial Production 2019, employment in the broad industrial sector increased in 2019 by 3.9% to 39.7 thousand compared to 38.2 thousand in 2018.

In manufacturing, CyStat says, employment reached 35.1 thousand, in mining and quarrying 0.5 thousand, in electricity supply 2.2 thousand and in water supply, sewerage and waste management 1.9 thousand persons.

Production value at current prices in the entire industrial sector recorded an increase of 7.3% to โ‚ฌ4,976.8 million in 2019 compared to โ‚ฌ4,638.6 million in 2018.

In manufacturing, production value increased by 8.1% to โ‚ฌ3,667.3  million, in electricity supply by 8.2% to โ‚ฌ896.3 million and in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 1.9% to โ‚ฌ344.8 million. On the contrary, production value decreased in mining and quarrying by 13.2% to โ‚ฌ68.4 million.

Value added at current prices rose by 9.2% in the entire industry and reached โ‚ฌ1,830.2 million in 2019 compared to โ‚ฌ1,676.4 million in 2018.

In manufacturing, value added increased by 9.6% to โ‚ฌ1,343.9 million, in mining and quarrying by 5.8% to โ‚ฌ27.4 million, in electricity supply by 10.7% to โ‚ฌ302.5 million and in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 3.7% to โ‚ฌ156.4 million.
