Foreign public documents originating from an authority of a country being a party to the Hague Convention may only be translated if they bear the stamp of the Hague Convention (Apostille) save for the cases of exemption from such certification as defined below. If the public documents originate from a country non-party to the Hague Convention then they require validation by the Greek Consular authority in their country of origin or by such countryโ€™s Consular authority in Greece and then by the Validation Office (KEPAE) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Validation Office of the Thessaloniki International Relations Service (Y.DI.S) (Dioikitirio).

If the documents originate from a foreign Diplomatic or Consular authority in Greece, then they need to be validated by the Validation Office (KEPAE) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Validation Office of the Thessaloniki International Relations Service (Y.DI.S) (Dioikitirio)., except where the document is exempt from validation by virtue of a bilateral or multilateral agreement binding Greece (e.g. the London Convention of 1968).

The Greek public documents that are to be submitted to foreign authorities are required to be in original or certified copies. The issuing authority should inform the persons concerned of the legal validation procedure to be followed depending on the country of final destination. In all cases, responsibility for proper validation of Greek documents that are to be sent abroad rests solely with the person requesting the translation.

More particularly, if the Greek public document is to be submitted to a country being a party to the Hague Convention, such document must be certified by Apostille otherwise the validation procedure  by the Validation Office (KEPAE) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Validation Office of the Thessaloniki International Relations Service (Y.DI.S) (Dioikitirio) shall be required
