President of the House of Representatives Dr. Adamos Adamou received on Monday the new Ambassador of the People`s Republic of China to Cyprus Liu Yantao, who assured Adamou of his country’s commitment to the respect of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Cyprus.
According to a press release by the Parliament, during the meeting, Adamou underlined the excellent relations between the two countries and expressed Cyprus` gratitude for China`s firm support regarding the Cyprus problem and the efforts to reach a solution on the basis of principles and in the context of the relevant UN resolutions and decisions.
Regarding the close cooperation that is being fostered between the two countries in all areas and in particular, in the framework of the China initiative “One Belt – One Road” Adamou expressed the willingness to further strengthen it on parliamentary level and reaffirmed Cyprus` firm support on the “One China” principle.
The Chinese Ambassador noted the close ties between China and Cyprus, underlying the Cyprus Parliament`s substantive role.
Liu assured the President of the House that his country is committed to the respect of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Cyprus.
He also expressed gratitude for the long-standing and firm support of the Republic of Cyprus to the “One-China policy” as well as for Cyprus` contribution to strengthening the dialogue and cooperation between China and the European Union.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on the prospects of further strengthening the cooperation between the two states in the fields of economy, trade, and investments with emphasis on the field of digital transformation and innovation.
