Ambassador Huang Xingyuan met with Li Fang, the new chief of the UN peacekeeping police force in Cyprus

On March 30, 2020, Ambassador Huang Xingyuan met with Li Fang, the police chief of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. Wang Sheng, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus and Du Lei, Captain of the Chinese Police Force were also present.

Ambassador Huang welcomed chief inspector Li to take up his post in Cyprus and gave a comprehensive introduction to the development of China-Cyprus friendly relations. He said that the embassy will continue to provide support to the peacekeeping police force in its work and that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, will play its role in a just and reasonable settlement of the Cyprus issue. Ambassador Huang also presented 200 surgical masks to chief superintendent Li, hoping that the police force could carry out its peacekeeping missions on the basis of maintaining its own health and safety.

Chief Superintendent Li appreciated the embassy’s long-term support for UN peacekeeping missions and thanked for surgical masks and other medical supplies. He said that with the strong cooperation of the embassy, the embassy would fulfill its glorious peacekeeping duties entrusted by the UN. The two sides also conducted extensive and friendly exchanges on the impact of the novel coronavirus situation on the settlement of the Cyprus issue and the cooperation between China and Cyprus in fighting the novel coronavirus.
