Due to the severe pandemic situation across the world and the high risks of cross-infection, it is strongly advised that unnecessary international trips should be avoided.

For those in actual and urgent needs to visit China, in order to avoid the cross-infection risks by transiting in different countries, from February 25, 2021, passengers are allowed to fly from Cyprus to China by transiting in one country ONLY.

Please upload your flight ticket itinerary and, for non-Cypriot citizens, valid Cypriot residence permit (including permanent residence card, short-term residence card, Cypriot visa, etc.) when applying for HDC codes with the Chinese Embassy.

For those who will fly to China transiting in more than one country due to difficulties in flight connection, the Embassy will grant HDC codes in a strict manner and case by base. If your itinerary does not meet the above requirements, you may not be able to obtain the HDC codes.

In particular, you are kindly advised to check in advance the transit policy and HDC code application regulations of the transit country and the Chinese Embassy in that country, so as to avoid being held up or repatriated.

For instance, the Chinese Embassy in Egypt stipulates that it only accepts HS/HDC code applications for passengers who departs from a third country and Egypt is their only transit point to China.

So if you plan to transfer in Egypt, you can only fly directly from Cyprus to Egypt and then take a direct flight from Egypt to China. For another instance, according to the entry regulations of the UAE government, if your IgM antibody is tested positive, you will not be able to transfer in the UAE.
