The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday 268 new coronavirus cases detected with the PCR method as well as 93 positive results with the antigen rapid test method that need further verification with the PCR test.
In total, 12,363 tests were carried out, 6,356 PCR tests and 6,007 rapid tests.
Based on the data so far, since the outbreak of the pandemic the total number of coronavirus cases in Cyprus reaches 7,979.
In the Famagusta General Hospital there are 64 patients with SARS-CoV-2, five of whom in the Increased Care Unit. In the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital ten people are receiving treatment and other seven are in the COVID19 ward.
The 268 cases include 226 cases detected with the PCR method on Thursday and 42 verifications following a positive result in the previous days with the antigen rapid testing.
The cases were found as follows: From 801 samples taken after contact tracing 64 cases were detected, 90 other cases were found out of 2,919 samples taken after private initiative, 21 out of 348 tests done in the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 5 out of 137 samples taken after GP referrals, 3 out of 257 tests done in the Limassol district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos, 6 out of 919 samples taken in the Pafos district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos and 37 people were tested positive out of 291 tests done in care homes.
The Ministry announced that no positive results were found after 464 tests done at schools, 98 tests done in refugee camps, 116 samples taken at airports, 2 tests done in football clubs and 4 samples taken among residents of Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias.
