On November 13, 2020, His Excellency Liu Yantao, Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus addressed the virtual closing ceremony of the 2020 “Seeds for the Future Program”. Also present at the ceremony were Dr. Himonas, Permanent Secretary of Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of Cyprus, Professor Charalambos of the University of Cyprus, and Mr. Lazaris, General Manager of Huawei Cyprus. Ambassaor Liu was accompanied by the Embassy’s Commercial Counselor Mr. Li Yaohui.
Ambassador Liu said, that China-Cyprus relations are at a historic best. The “Seeds for the Future Program” jointly organized by Huawei and the University of Cyprus, and has been held for four times so far. The event enhanced the cooperation among the enterprises, universities and research institutes of the two countries, which is conducive to deepening China-Cyprus friendship and win-win cooperation. The young student participants of the program are not only seeds for Cyprus’ high-tech development, but also seeds for China-Cyprus friendship. China is ready to work with all parties to make the seeds grow and bear fruits so as to better serve the benefits of the two peoples.
Dr. Himonas said that Cyprus is accelerating its digital transformation and cultivating digital talents is an important part of this initiative. Huawei’s “Seeds for the Future Program” provides young students with opportunities to learn and practice advanced technology. He sees it as a very meaningful project and hopes that it continue.
