Ambassador Liu Yantao Meets with Permanent Secretary Kornelios Korneliou of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus

On February 5, 2021, Ambassador Liu Yantao met with Ambassador Kornelios Korneliou, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus. The two sides exchanged views on celebratory events for the 50th anniversary of China-Cyprus diplomatic ties, developments in the Cyprus Problem, and international cooperation in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ambassador Liu expressed satisfaction with the timely passing of United Nations Security Council resolution on UNFICYP mandate renewal, and reaffirmed China’s commitment to facilitating a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Cyprus Problem at an early date on the basis of relevant UN resolutions. China is ready to work with Cyprus to take the 50th anniversary of China-Cyprus diplomatic ties this year as an opportunity to continuously deepen friendship and cooperation.
