Ambassador Liu Yantao Meets with the President Of The House Of Representatives Mr. Adamos Adamou

The Chinese Ambassador Liu Yantao met with President Of The House Of Representatives Mr. Adamos Adamou in the presence of Socrates, Secretary General of the Cypriot Parliament, on 30 November 2020. 

Ambassador Liu said, “China and Cyprus as good friends, good partners and good brothers, have long supported each other on issues involving each other’s core interests. China values the traditional friendship between China and Cyprus and is optimistic about the prospects of bilateral cooperation. China is willing to continue to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries and promote the upgrading of the friendly relations between China and Cyprus. Ambassador Liu highly appreciated the Cypriot parliament and government’s adherence to the “One China” policy, stressed that China has always been firmly committed to the “One Cyprus” policy, and called on all parties to fully respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cyprus. As a permanent member of the United Nations, China will continue to play a constructive role in reaching a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Cyprus issue.

Mr. Adamou warmly welcomed Ambassador Liu to Cyprus, commenting positively on the great strides made in recent years in China-Cyprus friendship and cooperation, and said that the two countries were deepening their traditional friendship and expanding exchanges at all levels and cooperation in all fields. Cyprus attaches great importance to the development of relations with China, and the two sides have great potential to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, digital transformation and innovation under the framework of “One Belt, One Road”. Cyprus sincerely appreciates China’s firm support for the Cyprus issue and the important role it plays as a permanent member of the Security Council. The Cypriot parliament looks forward to strengthening exchanges with the Chinese legislature and jointly promoting new and greater development of relations between the two countries in more areas.
