Second batch of medical equipment from China arrives in Cyprus

A second batch of medical equipment and consumables from China arrived early on Saturday morning in Cyprus, via Athens, on board of a specially arranged aircraft of Aegean Airlines.

The aircraft delivered around 9 tons of medical protective equipment, donated by the House of Representatives and the Chinese Embassy. The flight also carried consumables purchased by the Ministry of Health.

The medical protective equipment includes surgical masks, masks affording high protection, special glasses, swaps to conduct sampling and uniforms.

The flight was offered by Aegean Airlines and Hellenic Petroleum.

In his statements, the President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris thanked the Representative of the Armenian religious group at the House of Representatives, Vartkes Mahdessian, who had the initial idea and assisted the whole effort.

Syllouris also sent a message to the Cypriot people, saying that by staying united on all levels we will deal with this crisis.

We will suffer a lot of losses, but we will emerge victorious and the day after will be a better one if we manage to utilize this crisis properly, said the President of the House.

He also referred to the donated equipment, saying that 50,000 masks, 5,000 face shields and 4,000 medical uniforms will help the medical world fighting COVID-19 on the frontline.

From his part, Mahdessian said that the Armenian community is also present in efforts to support their country, Cyprus, and wished โ€œthis nightmare to be over soon.โ€

On April 4 another Aegean flight arrived from China, delivering medical equipment and consumables for health professionals working in public hospitals.

The Ministry of Health said in a post on social media that the new arrival includes protection uniforms and masks, surgical masks, special glasses and swaps to conduct sampling. The material will be given to health professionals for immediate use, it is added.

The Ministry of Health expresses gratitude to the House of Representatives, as well as to the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus, for offering part of the equipment. The Ministry also thanks Aegean Airlines and Hellenic Petroleum Group of Companies for sponsoring the second flight carrying the equipment.

The office of the Representative of the Armenian religious group at the House of Representatives also issued an announcement, noting that the Representative had active involvement in coordinating the transportation of protective wear, including 50,000 masks, 5,000 face shields and 4,000 medical uniforms

It is added that Mahdessian secured the donation from CDA Group and its business partners and coordinated the effort, with the support of the President of the House, Demetris Syllouris.
