The Cyprus Shipping Chamber held a members’ webinar on Wednesday, on the occasion of World Maritime Day, titled “The Atomic Battery – a zero-emission energy revolution for maritime transport”, which presented the prospect of alternative “green” fuels for smaller ships and the supply of larger ships.

In a press release, the CSC notes that World Maritime Day aims to turn global attention on the important role of the shipping industry, which carries about 90% of world trade, and its vital contribution to the economy and society in general.

“This year’s theme, ‘Sustainable Shipping for a Sustainable Planet’, aims to show the serious commitment of the International Maritime Organisation and the International Maritime Community in general, towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to highlight the IMO and its member states efforts to achieve these goals.
