In his statements, Kyprianou said the Deputy Ministry’s goal is to regain 30% Cyprus had in 2019 in arrivals and revenue from tourism.

He also announced that the parliamentary committee would be sending a letter to the union of municipalities and local communities and Interior Minister Nicos Nouris, seeking to extend the outdoors use of public spaces by restaurants where that is possible.

Kyprianou also said that 57% of the national strategy on tourism has been completed.

The Committee, he noted, will be holding a meeting next Tuesday with all parties involved in the tourism industry to discuss how to restart Cyprus as a tourist destination.

The meeting will take place at the Filoxenia Conference Centre where committee meetings are set to take place in order for public health social distancing measures to be upheld.

“Cyprus will be ready to open as a tourist destination on June 15,” the parliamentary committee’s chairman said, adding at the same time that this will depend on decisions taken by the Cabinet, the recommendations of epidemiologists and the Ministries of Health and Transport.

All tourism protocols to do with restaurants, transport from and to the airport and the etiquette in hotels, taxis, beaches and swimming pools, will be ready, he said.

Kyprianou further pointed out that an effort by the Deputy Ministry to promote Cyprus as a safe tourist destination is ongoing, adding that “Cyprus is the safest country in the Mediterranean and the fifth safest in the world.”
