Cyprus is a firm ally of the Republic of China at the international political arena in relation to many significant issues, said the Chinese Ambassador in Nicosia, Huang Xingyuan.
He made the remark after a meeting on Wednesday with President of the House of Representatives, Demetris Syllouris, who reconfirmed the excellent relations of friendship and mutual support, based on common principles, between the two countries.
He thanked the Chinese government for supporting Cyprus in combatting the repercussions of COVID-19 and underlined the significance of the assistance provided by China in the form of medical supplies, an indication of the close cooperation between the two countries.
Syllouris also repeated his readiness to further upgrade cooperation in many important sectors at all levels and repeated the invitation to Li Zhanshu current Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People`s Congress, to pay an official visit to Cyprus within 2020, on the occasion of the celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus.
Huang underscored the longstanding relations of mutual respect between Cyprus and China, underlining that Cyprus ia a firm ally of China in the political arena in relation to many important issues.
He briefed the Cypriot Speaker on issues that concern China and expressed the Chinese governmentโs appreciation to the House for letters of support and solidarity in its efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. China, he said, is closely monitoring Cyprusโ course in handling the current crisis and welcomed Cyprus for its positive results.
Huang also delivered 1000 personal masks to Syllouris, who thanked the Chinese diplomat for his gesture.
