On April 20, 2020, Ambassador Huang Xingyuan held a video conference with Wang Wuxing, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Cyprus, and all the teachers. They fully communicated and given careful guidance on the recent epidemic prevention and control, difficulties and problems encountered in the Confucius Institutes.
Dean Wang thanked Ambassador Huang for instructing the embassy to distribute surgical masks to the Confucius Institute in two rounds and to promptly share information and provide policy guidance. Introduced the situation of Confucius Institute conducted Chinese teaching through online courses while preventing and controlling the epidemic situation and the health and living conditions of the teachers. It reported some practical difficulties and problems of some teachers residence card and rental contract in Cyprus are about to expire. Hope the embassy will continue to provide guidance and assistance.
On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese embassy in Cyprus, Ambassador Huang extended sincere condolences to the teachers of Confucius institutes who are firmly on the front line of Chinese language education and conveyed the warm care of the motherland, express hope to increase the confidence in anti-epidemic for the teachers through video connection in a special period, and will continue to provide anti-epidemic materials to the Confucius Institute, and reminded everyone to remain vigilant when the epidemic situation on the island is slowing down, and make preparations for the return to work while anti-epidemic materials and psychological preparation. Ambassador Huang recommended to the teachers the “Internet consultation service platform for overseas Chinese” of the health commission, and said that the embassy would provide assistance on issues such as the extension of residence cards, as always, to provide strong guarantee for overseas Chinese promotion workers.
