The Embassy of People’s Republic of China of the Republic of Cyprus and European University Cyprus organizes a colloquium on: The role of globalization in the era of the One Belt, One Road Initiative by Professor Dr. Xiang Bing.

Professor Dr. Kostas Gouliamos, Rector at the European University Cyprus, welcomed His Excellency the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Huang Xingyuan to the University Campus on Thursday, 11 July 2019.

This was part of the “ONE BELT ONE ROAD INITIATIVE”, which was initiated back in 2013 by President Xi.
The initiative is an immensely ambitious development campaign through which China wants to boost trade, stimulate economic growth and education across Asia and beyond. It hopes to do so by building massive amounts of infrastructure connecting it to countries around the globe.

The European University Cyprus is committed to further improve ties and relations with Chinese Universities and because of its location, it is a very important link between China and the rest of Europe.

The event began with a welcome address from His Excellency the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Huang Xingyuan.

The event was under the auspices of Mr. Demetris Syllouris, President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, who also gave a short address.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Xiang Bing, Founding Dean of China Business and Globalisation at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business.

Professor Dr. Kostas Gouliamos, Rector at the European University Cyprus, also gave a closing speech and encouraged improved collaboration between Cyprus and China and mentioned that the European University Cyprus was recognised as being in the top 100 Universities in the world.

Founding Dean, Professor of China Business and Globalization Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business.

Dr. Xiang Bing is the Founding Dean and Professor of China Business and Globalization at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB). Prior to joining CKGSB, Dr. Xiang was a Professor at Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management, where he pioneered the school’s Executive MBA program. He was also one of the seven founding faculty members of China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai. Previously, Dr. Xiang served on the faculty of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

He has been an independent board member of a number of companies (including two Fortune Global 500) listed in Hong Kong, mainland China and the US. He is also a member of board of trustees of Asia House (UK), as well as a member of International Advisory Council of Fundação Dom Cabral (FDC) in Brazil and a Counselor for One Young World Summit in Dublin. He also served as a member of board of trustees for United Way Worldwide (US) (2010-2017).

Dr. Xiang’s research interests include state and business relations, reform of state-owned enterprises, innovation and the role of the private sector in China. He is a leading authority on Chinese business, innovations in China, globalization of Chinese companies and global implications of China’s transformation. His writings and cases on these subjects are considered among the most influential in China.

Dr. Xiang has served as keynote speaker at many influential forums and conferences around the world. His recent keynote speaking engagements include APEC Global Innovator Conference (2015), Sydney China Forum (2016), Committee of 100 Annual Conference (2016), China-Europe Trade and Investment Forum (2017), FT Banking Summit (2017), Harvard China Forum (2017 and 2018), CKGSB – Princeton China US Forum (2017), etc.

He is also a regular speaker of World Economic Forum, Bo’ao Forum for Asia, Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, Fortune Global Forum, the Economist Innovation Summit, etc. He also participated in distinguished closed door conferences including Rome Roundtable Meeting (2017 and 2018), Yale CEO Summit (2016), and conferences held by Asia House (UK), Ditchley Foundation, and US Council on Foreign Relations, etc.

He has worked with many leading companies to offer consulting and training in China and globally, including China Mobile, China Telecom, Huawei Technologies, TCL, Midea, Petro China, CNOOC, Ernst & Young, IBM (China), GE (China), Siemens (China), Goldman Sachs (Asia), Clifford Chance, Cummins, DFS, Lenovo, Bank of China and China Railway Construction Corporation, among others.

Dr. Xiang received his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Alberta in Canada and his bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University in China.
