Railway repairers maintain the switches of the Mohe Railway Station in Mohe City, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, Jan. 11, 2021. Although high-speed railways have reached most parts of China, people living in the Greater Khingan range, the northernmost area of China, still have no access to high-speed railways and have to rely on low-speed trains or “green-skinned” trains as their main means of transportation. The winter temperature here can drop to as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius, under which the rails often deform and the strength of rails, bolts and joint plates lessens, posing threat to the train traffic safety. Railway repairers are indispensable here and their work is to make sure every part along the railroad in good condition. (Xinhua/Xie Jianfei)
