Twenty-eight years ago, two young people from China arrived in Cyprus as students, full of dreams and aspirations for the future. At the time, they could not have imagined that this sun-soaked Mediterranean island would not only become their home but also the starting point of a journey that would connect two countries, two cultures, and countless human stories.
Today, John Che Huali and Judy Wang Xiaoyu are known as the founders of TOPCY Development Ltd. However, long before embarking on their entrepreneurial path, they became active members of Cypriot society, choosing to fully integrate into the social and professional fabric of the country that welcomed them.
In their early years in Cyprus, they worked as official state translators and gained in-depth experience in the tourism sector, eventually obtaining government-issued licenses as certified tour guides. Their involvement in tourism was far from theoretical: they established a travel agency aimed at connecting people and cultures, while simultaneously engaging in international trade, importing stone and quartz to meet the needs of businesses across the islandl.
Daily life, however, was incomplete without the flavors of home. They opened two Chinese restaurants in Nicosia and Limassol, which soon became landmarks for both the Chinese community and local Cypriot friends. These spaces evolved into informal meeting points for different cultures, united by hospitality and cuisine.
The year 2019 marked a pivotal moment in their journey. With the founding of TOPCY Development Ltd., the two entrepreneurs entered the real estate development sector with determination and vision. Over six years, the company established a strong presence in Cyprus’ three main cities—Nicosia, Limassol, and Larnaca—delivering more than 60 projects, completing 217 property sales, and assisting over 150 Chinese families who chose Cyprus as their permanent home.
Despite their significant business activity, they emphasize that their story is not limited to real estate. At the core of their philosophy lies a commitment to community and giving back. Their goal has always been to build a meaningful bridge between China and Cyprus.
As President of the Cyprus Chinese Overseas Friendship and Solidarity Association, John Che Huali has undertaken initiatives to strengthen the connections between the Chinese community and the local society. These included sports events, social activities, and participation in cultural celebrations, such as local carnival parades, promoting openness, integration, and cultural exchange.
Special emphasis has also been placed on youth sports. Recognizing the need for more athletic facilities for children, they established Apple Gym, a comprehensive sports center where nearly 1,000 children now train and play every day. This initiative represents a tangible expression of gratitude to the country that provided them with opportunity and perspective.
At the same time, their travel agency continues to operate actively, welcoming dozens of tour groups from China each year. Visitors are introduced to Cyprus’ history, beaches, and cultural heritage, while channels are created for engagement with Chinese investors, contributing to the local economy.
Their work has also received international recognition. John Che Huali had the honor of representing the Chinese community in Cyprus at major national celebrations in China, including the 70th and 75th National Day anniversaries. These occasions, as noted, reflect the enduring and stable friendship between the two nations.
The mission of TOPCY Development Ltd. remains clear: to promote cultural exchange, foster friendship, and support Chinese expatriates who choose to live and work in Cyprus. A journey that began as a personal dream has evolved into a collective story of cooperation, integration, and shared progress.
