Cyprus authorities announce 228 new COVID-19 cases after conducting 8,887 tests

Cyprus authorities announced on Tuesday 228 new confirmed COVID-19 cases from a total of 8,887 tests that have been carried out. This brings the total number of cases to 7.513.

A total of 127 people tested positive after 3,274 samples were tested at a private initiative. Moreover, according to the Health Ministry, 40 cases were detected out of 528 samples tested in the framework of tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases. Another 29 cases were detected after testing 345 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbiological Labs.

Eight individuals tested positive from a total of 284 samples taken after referrals by Personal Doctors and in the framework of checks carried out for special groups. Moreover two out of 496 passengers and people who have been repatriated also tested positive.

Three cases were detected out of 1,650 samples taken in Limassol district in the framework of checks carried out on employees, who are exempt from a travel ban to and from Limassol and Paphos Districts. Three more persons also tested positive out of 942 samples taken in Nicosia district in the framework of checks also carried out on employees who are exempt from the travel ban. Sixteen cases were traced from a total of 268 samples taken by individuals hosted in structures for immigrants.

No cases were detected after testing 249 samples taken in elders` houses and other structures, one sample taken in the framework of checks for football clubs, 147 samples taken in the framework of checks carried out for pupils, teachers and other school staff, 103 samples taken by Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias inhabitants and 600 samples taken in Paphos District by employees who are exempt from travel bans to and from Limassol and Paphos.

Fifty-four patients are treated in Famagusta General Hospital, which is the Reference Hospital for COVID-19. Six of them are in the Advanced Care Unit. Moreover ten patients are treated in Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Care Unit. Three of them are not on ventilators. Ten more patients are treated in the COVID-19 ward at Nicosia General Hospital.

Meanwhile a total of 46 positive results were announced on Tuesday out of 2,698 rapid tests carried out at 11 mobile testing units.

This programme was launched on Monday and will last for ten days with a view to test samples taken by 50 thousand citizens.
