On September 8, 2020, the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus held a meeting with students awarded 2020-2021 Chinese Government Scholarship.

Chargé d’affaires a.i. Wang Sheng congratulated the students for obtaining Chinese government scholarships through layers of screening, and pointed out that it’s high time for them to study in China currently. China is entering a new stage of development, especially in the world’s leading high-tech fields such as 5G telecommunications, which will bring profound changes and far-reaching impact to the world, and create limitless opportunities for career development in China . The China-Cyprus relationship is in the best shape in history. Last year, President and House President of Cyprus visited China. This year, a number of cooperation projects have been implemented in Cyprus. Traditional friendship between the two countries has been strengthened in the joint fight against COVID-19. Mr. Wang wished that the students would promote the development of China-Cyprus relations in their respective fields, and serve as “envoys” of friendship between the two countries.  The Embassy is willing to provide assistance in solving problems and difficulties during the students’ stay in China.

The five scholarship winners sincerely thanked the Chinese government for the opportunity to pursue their further studies, saying that they look forward to studying and living in China, hope to improve their professional level while learning the Chinese language, make more friends, experience Chinese culture, and contribute to China-Cyprus friendship. A parent of a student who had long worked in China recalled his unforgettable experience and hoped that the younger generation of Cypriots would better understand China and get closer with the Chinese people.

Chargé d’affaires a.i. Wang Sheng presented the admission letters to the Cypriot students, along with books and DVDs introducing Chinese history, culture and language, as well as China-Cyprus friendship badges.
