On April 13, 2022, Ambassador Liu Yantao visited the University of Nicosia and met with President Puijotas. They had an in-depth exchange of views on china-Cyprus strategic partnership and cooperation in higher education.
Ambassador Liu said that last year, when China and Cyprus celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two heads of state held a telephone conversation and the two countries formally established strategic partnership. Universities of the two countries have taken this opportunity to carry out various forms of cooperation. Higher education cooperation has shown great potential and broad prospects and has become one of the key directions of the development of bilateral strategic partnership. The University of Nicosia is a well-known university in Cyprus and southern Europe with a number of advantageous disciplines. China is ready to actively explore ways of cooperation with THE University of Nicosia in key areas such as digital, green, innovation and health through student exchange, joint training and joint scientific research, and make full use of the friendship city relationship between the two countries to promote exchanges between universities. This year is the first year of China-Cyprus strategic partnership. He expressed the hope that University of Nicosia will carry forward the fine tradition of mutual support, mutual learning and mutual benefit between China and Cyprus and make greater contributions to spreading Chinese culture, promoting exchanges and deepening friendly cooperation between the two countries.

The University of Nicosia is always open to China and welcomes embassies to hold china-themed activities such as lectures, forums and performances on the university campus to promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning between the two countries.
