On March 31, 2021, Ambassador Liu Yantao met with Chairman Papadopoulos of the Democratic Party of Cyprus and exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations, inter-party exchanges and issues of common interest.

I would like to express my admiration and appreciation to your father Mr. Tassos Papadopoulos for his important contribution to advancing bilateral relations as president of Cyprus and chairman of the Democratic Party of Cyprus . It is hoped that the two parties will further enhance exchanges of ideas, youth exchanges and practical cooperation to help deepen the traditional friendship between China and Cyprus . China firmly supports Cyprus in its efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and stands ready to uphold an objective and fair position and push for a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Cyprus issue on the basis of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Pappa expressed sincere thanks to China for its long-term and firm support on the Cyprus issue, saying that China is one of Cyprus’s important strategic partners. The Democratic Party attaches great importance to developing relations with China and stands ready to develop friendly relations with the COMMUNIST Party of China in an all-round way, promote the two sides to build more consensus and conduct exchanges in a wider range, at a higher level and in a broader area, carry on existing cooperation and expand new cooperation so as to continuously upgrade bilateral relations. I myself and members of the Democratic Party look forward to visiting China at an early date as the epidemic permits.
The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on the situation in Russia and Ukraine and agreed that it is imperative that the international community continue to support Russia and Ukraine in advancing negotiations, ending the conflict at an early date and avoiding a large-scale humanitarian crisis.
