On March 13, 2020, the ambassador in Cyprus Huang Xingyuan met with the president of the House of Representatives Cyprus, Demetris Syllouris, to exchang views concerning the outbreak trends and zone anti spreading measures against COVID-19.
The president Syllouris praised China’s efforts to combat the epidemic, effectively contain the spread of the epidemic, set an example for other countries, and buy valuable time for the world. He hopes that China could share its experience and useful practices in fighting the epidemic with other countries, including Cyprus, so as to contribute to the global fight against the epidemic.
The ambassador Huang Xingyuan thanked the president Syllouris for sending a letter of condolence to Chinese leaders for the epidemic. During the visit, he gave an interview to Xinhua News Agency and recorded a video to support China’s anti-epidemic efforts, calling for ensurance that the Chinese community in Cyprus will not be discriminated against or treated unfairly because of the epidemic.
The ambassador Huang also said that China cherishes the friendship between China and Cyprus and is willing to provide assistance within its capacity to Cyprus by donating anti-epidemic materials and holding video conferences to exchange experience in prevention, control, diagnosis and treatment, so as to jointly enhance public health security capabilities. China is ready to maintain close communication with Cyprus on strengthening joint defense and control
