2019 “Chinese National Day Cup”China-Cyprus Friendship Sports Day, jointly organized by Cyprus Chinese Friendship Association, Confucius Institute in Cyprus and Cyprus-China Art, Culture&Education Center, were held in Larnaka on Saturday, 11 May 2019.
More than 500 athletes and spectators participated in the games. There were five teams: Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and one United, which is composed of Embassy of China, Confucius Institute and Chinese-funded institutions.
At the opening ceremony, and the solemn national anthems inspired all the participants. Counsellor Mr. Wu Dongmei from the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus, President Mr. Chehua Li from Cyprus Chinese Friendship Association and Mr. Wang Wuxing director of the Confucius Institute in Cyprus attended the event and delivered their speeches.
The Sport day was held with many games such as tug-of-war, rope skipping, leg-binding and other interesting, cooperative and competitive events. There are also traditional Easter games like, eggs running, bag jumping and a lot of competitions for the children. โChina-Cyprus Friendship Sports Day 2019โ was a great success! Paphos team won the first prize, Nicosia team won the second prize and China United won the third prize.
The football and billiards matches that was part of the China-Cyprus Friendship Sports Day 2019 and took place before that was great success. Limassol won the first prizefor the football match, Larnaca and Paphos won the second and third prize respectively. Mr. Zhang Yuan from Limassol won the first prize for the billiards competition, Mr. Liu Xuewen and Mr. Wenyong won second and third prize respectively.
This Sport Day will enrich the cultural and sports life of the Chinese in Cyprus, promote friendship between China and Cyprus, and enhance the cohesion of the overseas Chinese in Cyprus. At the same time, it will also provide a platform for communication and friendship between Chinese compatriots living in various cities and also between the people of China and Cyprus.
